This summer St. Josaphat School teachers read Mindset by Carol Dweck. This book discusses research that shows students can learn and achieve more when they believe that effort is more important than fixed ability. The author provides educators with an opportunity to consider what beliefs about learning inform their current instructional practice and how they can help their students develop a growth mindset. Crucial to the growth mindset is a belief that mistakes are an important part of the learning process. Rather than something to be avoided, a mistake is a valuable experience that can help learners identify their misunderstandings and create more meaningful and lasting understandings.
